A Date With Luke

This was the day we have been waiting for, to go and follow up with the Oncologist. We went early to draw blood, and then went back in the afternoon to discuss the results. So we decided to make a date out of the morning!

After he got his blood drawn we went to Target, Toys R Us (where we got his halloween costume), and out to Frugos Frozen Yogurt. It was so fun walking around and holding his hand. Every time I told someone we were on a date, he being embarrassed would say "No we're not!" Such a boy.

As for the results: Everything looks normal except for his elevated LDH (which can be connected with Leukemia). So we will go back in a month and redraw. If it is still elevated we will talk about doing the bone marrow biopsy. His spleen and lymph nodes are still swollen, so no more soccer (for 4 weeks). The overall picture looks very promising. He is acting as healthy as ever, and is even back to causing trouble around the house. That's my Luke, welcome back! Thanks for a great day.

Rattle Snake!

This has been quite the week.......I heard Kennedy yelling my name over and over. When I went to find her in the garage, she told me there was a rattle snake in the garage. So I went to open the door, and she said "Don't open it! It's right by the door!" I told her not to move and ran to get Travis. We hurried and found the garage door opener to get her out. All Travis needed was some tools and a neighbor to help, and he took care of business. It was a baby rattler, I hope it's MOM is not in my Christmas box!

Luke

Luke has given us quite the scare, and we still don't know if it is over! We are praying that it is. He had a fever for 2 weeks. After going to the Dr. and still having no results, I decided to take him into urgent care. They drew his blood and told me his WBC is elevated, and all his liver levels were elevated too. He told me to take him straight to Loma Linda Children's Medical Center (this is on 9/28/09). After more blood draws, chest x-ray, and abdominal ultrasound, the ER doctor came in and told us they were temporarily moving us to the oncology floor (cancer) for more testing which included a bone marrow biopsy. That was the lowest point of the day, I cried on and off all day. I tried to be quiet, so Luke wouldn't hear me, sometimes I would hide in Travis shoulder and just cry.

Being admitted to the oncology floor was so sad. Little kids everywhere sick, no hair, and getting chemo. I couldn't imagine this being Luke's life. About 9pm the Oncologist came in and said they decided not do the bone marrow biopsy for now, and will look more down the infection route. The world was lifted off my shoulders.

They discharged him 3 days later with Epstein Bar Virus / Mononucleosis. I felt like we dodged a big bullet. Once home I have started to scare myself again, realizing that mono/leukemia symptoms are very similar. I hope he has not been misdiagnosed. We have a follow up appointment with the Oncologist this Wed. I am crossing my fingers that all his blood work is still stable. If not they will most likely do the bone marrow biopsy.

Thanks to everyone who have been so supportive during this hard week. We have truly felt your prayers. Mom, I love you for flying out here to rescue me. Having your mom in times of trial is one of the best things. Luke, we love you so hang in there!

Smores

We decided to try out the new fireplace and make smores. It was so fun to sit and enjoy the evening together. I can't wait for many more nights of just sitting around the fire and visiting as a family(and with any of you who want to drive to CA and join us)!

I Love the Salisbury's

Here are some pictures from WA from the professional. I know I had posted some earlier, but they were taken from my camera. I love that they took these pictures on the land that they have farmed their whole life.
I had to throw this in. It is Travis being "Modest", because his shirt was unbuttoned a little.

Travis and I in his corn field

This is my favorite picture of Travis's Mom and his 3 sisters. Such a beautiful shot.
All the sister-n-laws

All the brother in-laws (only 2, the rest are all brothers, 8 boys!)
Mark, Sherri, & 11 kids
The WHOLE posterity, and only half are married.
I was blessed to have become part of this great family.I love being part of a family that has such a strong testimony of the gospel, and has raised Travis with such similar standards as I was. I am glad I lived a life that led me to Travis, and now I am privileged to carry the great family name of SALISBURY.
